Learning Your ABC's: Cigar 101

E is for Etiquette: Cultivating the Art of the Smoke

Cigars are more than just a smoke; they're a shared experience.  Here are some basic etiquette tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for yourself and your fellow cigar aficionados:

Lighting Up:

  • Don't Borrow a Flame:  Bring your own lighter, preferably a cigar-specific one that uses butane fuel to avoid imparting unwanted flavors.

  • Toast, Don't Roast:  Hold the cigar above the flame, slowly rotating it, to achieve an even burn. Avoid charring the wrapper.

Ashing with Grace:

  • Less is More:  Don't tap or flick ashes constantly. Let the ash develop naturally and gently tap it off into the ashtray when it reaches a comfortable length.

  • Respect the Ashtray:  Use the designated ashtray provided and avoid placing your cigar directly on furniture or the ground.

Sharing the Experience:

  • Offer, Don't Force:  If you have a humidor stocked with cigars, offer them to your companions, but don't pressure them if they decline.

  • Pass the Torch (or Lighter):  If smoking together, politely offer your lighter to others when they need to relight their cigar.

Bonus Tip: Be mindful of non-smokers. Consider the setting and avoid blowing smoke in their direction.

By following these simple guidelines, you'll demonstrate respect for yourself, your companions, and the entire cigar experience. Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy a truly memorable smoke!
